Tapped hole
The wedge-locking washer embeds into the corresponding substrate surface and securely locks the bolt.
Counterbore
According to DIN 974, standard outer-diameter wedge-locking washers can be used in screw fastening methods with a counterbore. As shown in the diagram, the washer is installed beneath the head of the standard screw.
Through Hole
For fastening methods with through holes, two pairs of wedge-locking washers are required—one pair to lock the screw and the other pair to lock the nut. When the screw is tightened, the nut is also locked in place.
Double-Ended Stud
Wedge-locking washers can be used in conjunction with nuts on studs, providing an alternative to methods like welding or adhesives for securing the connection.
Large Holes / Irregular Holes
In some cases, enlarged threaded holes or irregular holes are used in threaded connections to facilitate installation and fastening. In such situations, it is necessary to pair a flange nut with a widened SP anti-loosening washer. This increases the contact area of the washer, improves the embedding ratio, and effectively ensures the washer's anti-loosening performance.
Not Recommended for Use In
This section explains where the wedge-locking washers should not be used effectively, as detailed below:
◆ When the wedge-locking washer does not directly contact the substrate surface.
◆ When the substrate surface has a hardness greater than that of the wedge-locking washer.
◆ On very soft substrate surfaces, such as wood or plastic, where extreme indentations occur.
◆ In connections with no preload.
Soft Metal Material
Using SP widened washers with soft metal substrates increases the contact area between the washer and the substrate, reducing the pressure. This helps prevent collapse or damage to delicate surfaces, effectively enhancing the anti-loosening performance of the wedge-locking washer, ensuring it is not compromised by the softness of the metal material.
Elongated Holes / Irregular Holes
When elongated holes or irregular holes are used, pairing SP widened washers with flange nuts increases the load-bearing area and optimizes load distribution, ensuring the continuous anti-loosening effect of the wedge-locking washer.
Wide-Rim Washers
Yougu also produces wide-rim wedge-locking washers labeled as "SP." These "SP" washers are mainly used in large or elongated holes. Our SP washers can also be used on painted or easily damaged surfaces, or on softer materials. When paired with flange bolts or flange nuts, "SP" washers optimize load distribution.
